The NonProfit Times - The Leading Business Publication For Nonprofit Management: "11 Questions Every Donor Asks (Or Should)

By Kate Rogers

No fundraiser has a crystal ball. Although, it would be nice. Everything from a fundraiser’s job title to patience and timing all come into play when soliciting a gift of any size.

During the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ recent annual conference in Baltimore, Md., Harvey McKinnon, CFRE and president of Harvey McKinnon Associates in Ontario, Canada, gave fundraisers the burning questions donors have when being solicited, and just how to handle them."

Paulette's Point of View: More Good News

Paulette's Point of View: More Good News: "The resurgence seems to continue. Our 2009 State of Fundraising Survey showed the strongest sense of optimism for fundraisers in three years. During the first quarter of this year, our job banks featured double the number of postings compared to the first quarter of 2009. And now there’s a new survey from The Chronicle of Philanthropy which shows that charitable giving grew by a median of 11 percent in the first three months of 2010, compared with 2009."

Ok, I’ve had a week to reflect (and catch up on the day-job) and have compiled the following favorite tweets made during the recent Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International Conference in Baltimore. Some speak for themselves, others enjoy additional commentary where I couldn’t resist the chance to sneak in a soapbox."

Are You Counting or Are You Measuring? : Page 1 of 2 : FundRaising Success: "Continuing our coverage of the Association of Fundraising Professionals 47th International Conference held in Baltimore last month, Steve MacLaughlin , director of Internet solutions at Blackbaud, shares his presentation, 'Everything You Need to Know About Measuring Online Results but Were Afraid to Ask.'

Our everyday lives are full of numbers and metrics. The hours and minutes on the alarm clock. The temperature of the water that hits our face. The expiration date on the milk. The distance to our offices. The posted speed limit on the road. The number of e-mails waiting in the inbox. We live in a sea of things that can be counted and metrics that can be measured."

One of the key values of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore is “leadership in service,” in which students become lifelong “men and women for others.” The young men and women are taught to manifest a genuine concern for those in need by thinking and acting as community leaders for the common good. The school, in fact, prepares the next generation of philanthropists.

2009 Giving Goes Up 2% and Erases ’08 loss! :Bob Hartsook’s Blog

2009 Giving Goes Up 2% and Erases ’08 loss! :Bob Hartsook’s Blog: "The head of the Center on Philanthropy spoke at the AFP International Conference in Baltimore a couple of weeks ago. He said many things, but one in particular that I think the world needs to hear.

The loss of $6 billion in giving in 2008 should be celebrated and not viewed as a prescription for future failure. He said, “Only 6 billion?!? Wow. The resolve of our country to give is so great.” While other parts of the economy tanked 40%, giving went down only $6 billion. I agree and said so at the time. Thanks, Patrick for expressing that sentiment. It is right on."
